Keep the Colours in Your Life

Keep the colours in your life. Not just on good days, not just when everything is easy and the mood is right, but on the hard days too, the grey ones, the ones that try to convince you that the version of yourself who used to light up about things was naive and that the serious, stripped-down version is the one that belongs here now.

That version is wrong. And you know it.

Keep the Colours in Your Life Because They Were Never Meant to Fade

Keep the colours in your life because what you had as a child was not just innocence. It was something far more valuable and far harder to get back once you have let it go.

You had energy that did not need a reason. Curiosity that did not need a destination. The ability to be completely absorbed in something just because it felt good and alive and interesting, without calculating the return on the investment or wondering how it looked to someone watching.

Somewhere along the way, most people trade that in. Not all at once, but gradually, in small exchanges. A little creativity handed over to practicality here. A little wonder swapped for cynicism there. Until one day the palette is mostly grey and they cannot quite remember what they used to love or why any of it ever felt so vivid.

Do not make that trade. It is never worth it.

Keep the Colours in Your Life and Protect What Makes You Feel Alive

Keep the colours in your life by fiercely protecting the things that still make you feel like yourself at your most alive.

The hobby that has no career application. The music that hits something in you that you cannot explain. The random curiosity you follow down a rabbit hole on a Tuesday night just because it fascinates you. The part of you that still laughs easily, still gets excited, still finds certain things genuinely beautiful for no productive reason whatsoever.

These are not distractions from the serious business of living. They are the serious business of living. They are the parts of you that keep the rest from going flat. Strip them out in the name of focus or maturity or efficiency and you do not get a sharper, more effective version of yourself. You get a duller one.

Colour is not decoration. It is fuel.

Keep the Colours in Your Life No Matter What the World Asks You to Become

Keep the colours in your life because the world will not always make it easy to hold onto them.

Life has a way of applying pressure in the direction of grey. Responsibility, routine, disappointment, and the slow accumulation of years that did not go exactly as planned can quietly drain the vivid out of things if you let them. And the people around you, the ones who traded their colours in long ago, will sometimes make you feel like yours are out of place.

They are not out of place. They are yours. And they are one of the most important things about you.

The people who carry their energy, their creativity, and their sense of wonder all the way through life are not the ones who were protected from difficulty. They are the ones who decided, consciously and repeatedly, that no amount of difficulty was going to take their colours from them.

Make that decision. Today and every day after it.

Keep your colours. Keep your spark. Keep the part of you that a younger version of yourself would still recognize and be proud of.

That part is worth protecting with everything you have.

Share this with someone who needs a reminder to let a little more colour back in today.
